Don’t Negotiate Without A Plan ‘B’
Video: Balancing A Need For Achievement With Your Personal Life
William Ury
Director
Global Negotiation Project
Why you should watch this lesson:
Because the best-laid plans often go awry, it’s imperative that you have a “Plan B” in place before you negotiate. William Ury points out that you should always know your course of action if you can’t reach agreement on your original plan. (Duration 4:26)
New Functionality Preview: Feeding your people with stimulating information
In the next couple of weeks we will integrate an enhanced feature into the 50 Lessons Library, The Daily Insight, that will allow end-users to choose to have video lessons individually selected based on their interests ‘pushed’ to them via email.
This will give subscribers complete control. They may select which business topics they would like their video lessons to address and the frequency of the email (daily, every 3 days, weekly, etc…).
This is another step that we are taking to engage end-users in ways that are meaningful and fulfilling to them.
The feature is scheduled to launch during June. We look forward to hearing your feedback about the new functionality and ideas on how we could improve 50 Lessons.
New Functionality Preview: Pick and Choose Your Own Podcast
As we approach the final few weeks of Q2, we would like to take a moment to share with our Community one of the new features that we have been working on and will launch during Q3: LessonCast On-Demand.
This new feature takes our existing LessonCast feature, which allows Administrators to podcast specific lesson titles to their end-users, one step further. With LessonCast On-Demand, end-users will now have control over their own podcast downloads. End-users are empowered to pick and choose which lessons titles they are interested in and would like podcasted to them, the LessonCast On-Demand feature will not only increase the utilization of video usage amongst your teams, but will also ensure that your managers are engaged and will retain the content they learn.
Check back frequently for the official launch of this new feature.
The CLO’s Other Job - Story Whisperer
In the 1998 film, The Horse Whisperer, Robert Redford plays the role of a talented horse trainer with a remarkable gift for understanding horses. He is known as the ‘Horse Whisperer’ and rumors tell of his amazing abilities to nurse traumatized horses back to health. As the movie unfolds, it becomes apparent that the trainer’s ‘Horse Whisperer’ title is not simply rumor.
In a recent article, The Story Whisperer, featured in the Chief Learning Officer magazine, the author suggests that a CLO must also be a whisperer. That is, a Story Whisperer.
Stories have long been a part of our history. For centuries they have been the method to pass-down traditions and customs from generation to generation.
More recently stories have also become highly received within the leaders of the learning industry. “Stories have enormous power in organizations.” With the right stories, stories “can carry the weight of the organizational learning”.
